I had the absolute pleasure of doing the design work for the talented Dina Goldstein on her series: Modern Girl.
Modern Girl was inspired by Chinese advertising posters of the 1930’s; it examines identity, gender roles, diasporic cultures, and consumerism. By re-imagining iconic Chinese advertisements to critique the beauty, health and wellness industries, Modern Girl investigates how traditional gender roles, and individualistic consumer values have constructed and used women’s bodies to market and sell products.
The project consisted of 12 large-scale 4'x6' posters and a calendar designed similar to classical gregorian-oriented Chinese calendars.
It was covered by The Guardian here.
The series had an solo opening show at the Virginie Barrou Gallerie in Paris, France.
